Having read your post, I realized that we shared the same sentiments as to why the differences between the attack on Ukraine’s regional electric grid in 2015 and the failure of the U.S. electricity grid in 2003 were substantial. Specifically, you and I suggest that while the Ukrainian attack emanated from perfectly synchronized, highly coordinated, and skillfully executed cyber-attack, the U.S. attack came from software failure. However, I disagree with you on the idea that the U.S. attack was a natural disaster that created a secondary technology disaster. To me, the attack was entirely manmade and not natural because the software flaws involved were manmade. All the same, I appreciate your idea that microgrids can be employed to provide internal protection controls. I think they can be good security controls due to their capability to disconnect to “island mode”, which allows them to function autonomously as based on prevailing physical conditions. Thank you for such informative opinions.
