Task

This module will address fashion and dress through the overarching themes of identity and contemporary issues.  Students will explore a range of individual and collective fashionable identities and consider them within a variety of contexts in order to identify and understand what is meant by the term identity.

The essay will be in the form of a research project, which will reflect the learning of the module content.  The subject will be of the student’s own choice, to be confirmed with the tutor, but should fall within the parameters of the module’s general area of study.  Students will be supported with individual tutorials in the second half of the module.  The overarching themes in this module are identity and contemporary issues in fashionable society and these themes would provide the foundation for the essay

Structure

• Introduction should set out what the subject matter is and how it will be addressed (issue and theories raised)
• Main body of discussion to critically analyse rather than simply being a factual, historical and descriptive account
• Conclusion should not include any new material but summarise the main points of the essay and evaluate the findings.
