1. Watch any of the following videos available in the BCTC library in the AV section:
Sculpture
Georges Seurat
Picasso, Braque or any others relating to art
Write a review of the content of the video in relation to what has been discussed in the class so far.
2. Make a quilt, using either fabric or paper, which tells a story or conveys an idea. Feel free to incorporate photos or newspaper and magazine clippings, letters, cards, etc.
3. Find an object like a cell phone, shoe, pair of sunglasses, etc. Then consider how several different artists might decorate this object so that it would represent their cultures, traditions, or styles. For example, Egyptian, Chinese, Hawaian. Either illustrate the culturally/artistically defined objects on a poster with drawings or collage – or actually create models of the objects for your display.
4. Create a nonrepresentational work that conveys some emotion or idea. Give the work a title that will help the viewer understand the content of the work.
5. Write 5 paragraphs explaining and giving examples of five of the purposes or functions of art talked about in Chapter 3. Arrange the paragraphs in order of importance, from least to most important, indicating within your paragraphs the reasons you have for your rating of relative importance.
6. Use a search engine to explore the internet for information on at least three methods of making sculpture. Print out your information and create a poster illustrating and explaining the methods you’ve found
7. Create a sculpture that is assembled from found objects and represents a human or animal.
8. Create a poster of the Greek orders of architecture in which you include copies of diagrams of the column types and photos of actual structures in your area that use columns of each type. Identify each structure in your area, its location, and the type of column/order it represents.
