Strategic Initiatives and Prioritization

In the identification of strategic initiative, officers in the top level may have different views on what their company should pursue. The disagreement can be very dangerous because if it is not resolved easily, it can demonstrate fight of power if each officer is after ensuring that his/her views are adopted by the company. This wastes time and can paralyze the planning process unless efforts are made to end the conflict. If a decision that one officer is opposing is concluded, then implementation becomes a problem because that officer may not fully support the plan and will always complain to the supporters whenever there are challenges (David, 2013 P. 49).

The management has no control over the external environment. This environment consists of the customers, the competitors and the legal and political conditions in the area served. The management may fail to arrive at the strategic plans because of the changes in the external environment. Since they have no control over this environment, the organization faces a risk and the management should be very careful in ensuring that the risks are avoided. This may make the management make decisions that are not very attractive because they do not know how the external environment will change to affect the company (David, 2013 P. 62).

In the decision making process, the management is expected to be in line with the ethics that exist in the society. In some instances, there may exist dilemmas that relate to ethics. It is crucial that ethics in society and organization are respected but at the same time, this may mean that the organization fails to pursue certain goals. It becomes difficult for companies to balance ethics and strategic goals that their companies are expected to achieve (David, 2013 P. 312).

In conclusion, it requires a lot of sobriety to ensure that strategic initiatives are made in the company. The management should consist of individuals who can reason with patience, considering issues from different points of view as well as accepting changes and respecting the views of the colleagues.
