Statement Of Purpose-Law

My interest in law and law studies came about in my earliest years of study and was influenced by my country of origin. Having been born and raised in Saudi Arabia, I grew accustomed to the common belief that my country of origin was diffident in the practice of law. In addition to this, women in my country were not allowed to participate in activities related to law, and for that reason, had trouble voicing their concerns regarding women rights. Armed with such motivation, I decided to partake law studies with the belief that my country requires people like me, a young, passionate, and soon-to-be, female lawmaker to assist the state enhance and develop their legal systems. I, determinedly, believe that law suffuses every aspect of humanity, and that for a country to be successful, it has to have a strong legal system. I graduated from King Saud University in the year 2009 with a bachelor degree in law (L.L.B), something I am very proud of to date. I was one of the first female students to graduate from Law school with a first class honors in my country, and I managed to do this with a G.P.A average of 4.75 out of 5.

My time at the university not only enriched me academically, it also exposed me to professional law practice, thus, helping me build on my skill and capacities as an aspiring lawmaker. I was an active member in various university committees at king Saud Department of Law including the academic committee and the examinations committee. I also had the opportunity to attend various short courses during my time at the university including drafting of legal contracts, as well as, forgery of signatures and documents workshop. As soon as I completed my degree, I was offered a teaching opportunity in the same university, and this provided me an excellent opportunity to enhance my knowledge in law as a teaching assistant. Sequentially, I was able to gain a scholarship to obtain a higher education degree abroad, hence the reason for this application.

My university of choice for furthering my education in law is the Chapman University School of Law. I explicitly chose this institution because I am aware of its exceptional reputation in the field of law, as well as, the school’s skilled faculty team. The Chapman University School of Law will also provide me with international exposure and allow me to interact with students and faculty members from all corners of the world. In terms of specialization, I have settled on Business Law as my preferred field of study. This decision has also been, significantly, influenced by, Saudi Arabia, my home country. Observably, business in Saudi Arabia is regulated by a number of laws including the Commercial Court Law, and the Bankruptcy Law, most of which have not been amended and updated to the international level. In addition to this, Saudi Arabia is suffering from a lack of specialists in business law, which has, in turn, demanded an increase of legal experts business.

I believe that my intelligence and capabilities are the reasons for my academic and professional success, as I have shown dedication in achieving excellence. Accordingly, I sturdily believe that my decision to complete my graduate program in Business Law, and more specifically in Chapman University School of Law, would be all the preparation I need for a successful and challenging career in Saudi Arabia.
