Social Work
Social work refers to a professional activity which has the end objective of helping individuals, community as well as groups at micro, meso and macro levels. Social work helps individuals alleviate their suffering by creating and improving their societal conditions. Pracctitioners of social work therefore are referred to as social workers. They achieve tha above objectives by putting into practice either direct or clinical social work practice. These entails the functions of mediation, advocacy, consultation, assessment among other functions. This paper thus seeks to analyse the roles of social workers in different scenarios.
Social workers in this case, will embrace direct social work practice which involves direct as well as one on one contact with individuals as well as groups at micro level. For an elderly person, a social worker will perform the role of a consultant, here he will advice the family members on the required care as well as will work with the family to reduce the chances of readmission and relapse to hospital. A social worker may also advise the old man using a counseling technique. By playing this roles it is therefore expected that this will address particular problems that face the family as a result of the elderly man’s health.
This scenario will as well require the application of direct social work practice whereby, in such a case, the social worker first requires to assess the needs of this group of people. Through an assessment, it is expected that the needs will be highlighted and prioritized as well. This role may then be supplemented by advocating for the needs of the children in kinship families in the grant. These double role played by the social worker implies that the needs of the children will end up being solved by the concerned parties.
A social worker will play the following roles in assisting a truant child. The social worker will help improve the relationship skills of the child probably with teachers, fellow students and parents as well. The social worker should help improve how the child feels about himself, that is the self esteem. The social worker also may work with the family to develop good parenting skills. This therefore implies that a social worker plays the role of a mediator as well as a negotiator to solve the problem of truancy. This is still a form of direct social work practice.
This is a challenging situation that may the social worker to put to practice the clinical social work practice. On the other hand, direct social work practice could also be of importance in this scenario. Therefore, an assessment could act as a foundation to achieve a rational solution in this scenario. A social worker may play the role of advocacy. They may also play the role of case managers where they will help the parties concerned get government benefits of food and social security. They may also play the role of counselors for the mentally disabled. Being a member of the field agency it is important to participate in individual or group counselling as well as an advocate to the agency’s clients. As a Team member one needs to function within the team’s role and deliver services as well as supervise the implementation of services.
Being a member of the field agency it is important to participate in individual or group counselling as well as an advocate to the agency’s clients. This implies that once again, direct social practise will be put to practise.
As a Team member one needs to function within the team’s role and deliver services as well as supervise the implementation of services.
Social workers may help improve lives of people living with disabilities in one of or the following ways. They may provide them with benefit information and how they should go about receiving these benefits.
