Pro Infirmis: Because who is perfect

There are many people with physical disabilities living in the world. The physical disabilities may be a product of very many factors including natural factors such as birth defect, and infection by diseases such as polio. The stabilities may also be a product of artificial factors such as accidents and amputations. People think different things about the disabled people. It is common especially for people who have never had a close association with disable people and refer to them with all sorts of names. However, it must be understand the no one is perfect. Everybody has different defect, even when such effect are not pronounced, they still exist. In the video, “Pro Infirmis: Because who is perfect?” mannequins of individuals with disability are created and displayed enlisting various reactions from the viewers. This video is meant for the nondisabled individuals.

The video targets the nondisabled due to the various negative sentiments some of them have towards the disabled individuals. The video shows how disabled people appreciate their mannequins as their bodies and do not see anything wrong with them. At 2.29 minutes into the video the disabled individuals uncover their mannequins with almost teary amazement. They are pleased with what they see. Some are shocked to see their reflections in the mannequins. One takes of his artificial limb and places it on his mannequin, looking at it with great amazements. At 3.17 minutes, a lady, one of the disabled individuals hugs her mannequins and with a broad smile say “it is special to see yourself like this. When you usually can’t look at yourself in the mirror.” When the disabled individuals look at their mannequins, they see perfection; they do not see what is wrong with them, they see humans (ProInfirmisCH 2min 29secs).

To the nondisabled individuals, the reaction is a mixture of amazement, bewilderment and pity; they do not see them as humans. This is the proof that the video was made for the nondisabled individuals to show them that the disabled people consider themselves as part of the rest of the humanity. When the mannequins are displayed at a glass window by the pavement, the non disabled individuals treat them differently. Some find the mannequins funny and try to mimic their postures (ProInfirmisCH 3mis 51 secs) while some take picture of the mannequins, the probably think them freaks. Others pity the mannequins (ProInfirmisCH 3min 43 secs), much like the pity some people have toward their disabled counterparts. Some are pleased to see the mannequins and stare at them for sometime expressing some sense of connection (3min 57 secs). Some do not give much attention to them or simply chose to ignore them (ProInfirmisCH 4mins 4secs).

The video targets at the nondisabled, trying to tell that they stereotypes they have towards the disabled people are unfounded. There is a difference between the way the disabled people look at themselves and the way the nondisabled individuals look at themselves. While the disabled consider themselves able the nondisabled look at them with pity, some consider them freaks and make fun with them.
