Stressful first day in secondary school
The first day that I entered secondary school turned out to be tragic and stressful to me after I broke the leg of an opponent in the school football field. On top of causing harm to the student, I was completely banned from playing football in the school, which was than my favorite leisure activity.
Prior to entering the secondary school, I noticed that I had become stronger, and my body had grown in height and wait. Back in the primary school, I had emerged as the best football player, which made me feel that I could also compete with older people than me in the field. Although I had noticed that I had also grown emotionally, I had not realized that I had become too aggressive and hot tempered. I waited eagerly to join secondary school and did all the necessary preparations in advance. In my mind, I had one major pre-determined goal; to advance my football skills.
Eventually, the day that I was eagerly waiting for came. Before escorting me to the school, my parents gave me lengthy advice about ho I should behave in school. They gave me a hint that I was going to start a new life and that I would interact with people from different backgrounds and with more experience in the school life. They advised me to concentrate more on learning activities. My mother gave me a hint that if I wanted to interact well with the students, I had to learn to respect that and to control myself emotionally. However, in my mind, I was still planning to show my influence to other students upon arriving in the school, particularly through displaying the skills that I had gained in playing football back in primary school.
My parents took me to the school and left after clearing with the admission department. Immediately after my parents left, I was escorted by a dormitory leader into the dormitories. Upon settling in a small room, a tall and huge young man wearing school uniform entered the room. He welcomed me to the room and informed me that he was in his final year, in the school. He undressed the school uniform and wore games dresses. I noticed that it was games time, but I had no idea about the recreational facilities that were available in the school.
I decided to walk out of the dormitory and take a view at the new buildings; classes, dining hall, staffrooms and washing rooms, among others. I had difficulties moving around since I was ion a new environment and had to follow directions indicated on signposts. I decided to ask one student who seemed to be well versed with the environment whether the school had a football playground. He gave me directions, and I went to the field. Upon arriving there, I found students playing football wearing games dresses bearing the name of the school. They were all huge, almost like the other huge man that came to the room. With my small body, I realized that far from my initial expectations, I could not compete with them.
Despite realizing that I was less powerful than the older students, I decided to go back to the room, wear games dresses that my parents had bought for me and join the football players. I was only thinking of how I could compete with the old students and show my skills. After explaining to the games captain that I had the playing skills, he allowed me in. After entering the field, I tried my best to show my skills and ignored the fact that the older players may have been better than me. I hardly hit the ball, which made me angry. The emotions led me to become aggressive and as a result, I engaged another player in a dangerous tackle. I intentionally stepped on his leg and broke his shinbone. As a result, the football training for the day ended, and the games captain banned me from playing football for the rest of my time in the school.
After going back to the dormitory, every student was talking about how I had intentionally broken the leg of the best football player. I came to realize that the school team was training ahead of inter-schools competitions in the next two weeks. Unfortunately, the school team did not even win the first leg during the competitions. Consequently, all students in the school pointed at me and the act of breaking the leg of the player, whom they believed would assist the school to succeed to higher levels. The incident left me in distress; I regretted causing harm to another student, and I would not be playing football, my most favorite leisure activity. During that day, I learned never to engage in unhealthy competition. Since then, I only entertain myself through watching football, but the interest to play has completely faded away.
