Software development projects are large, demanding and have only relative success attributed to them. The biggest challenge is on delivering bugs free software projects. One thing to note is that, even with the help of excellent software development processes, it is still hard to achieve right software development projects. There are a number of challenges that can back up this analysis. The first thing that Eledyne should note is that software development industry is still young. This implies that there are no strong development techniques that have been indentified so far and there is no wide range of pre-developed components contained in other countries. Another challenge in this case is that, Eledyne may lack enough user input. That is, the company, the user community, and the IT team of this company must be improved through adapting only the very best innovations. It is also important to note that software users are not aware of what they want until they get to see it. Software’s are conceited by peripheral factors; meaning that software’s are “mind ware” which makes them not obey the physical laws, but must abide to external constraints, for example, hardware regulations from governments, scalability among others. These are some challenges that Eledyne is likely to face once in embarks on the software development projects.
Open source software refers to those software’s that has a source code that is available for modification or which can be enhanced by any party. Use of open software is cheap compared to software development because they are made available gratis. Another opportunity lies to the fact that, Eledyne will hold a right to modify them because these software’s do not have a source code. There is a possibility of porting the code to a new hardware, adjust it to varying conditions and easily reach to a comprehensive indulgent of how the system operates. Eledyne will also stand a chance of using the software in any way that they wish
Adapting the strategy of open software’s in its system, Eledyne will be able to reduce on its operation cost. This is because expenses on extensive research and employing software developers will be reduced. That is the company will require a group of experts only to modify the open software’s to suit their operations. In the case of social innovation there room for more innovative minds will still be open especially on how to adapt and modify this software’s to be in the form that best suits the users. This approach will increase the company responsibility sense towards the surrounding community and the environment. The rate of waste products will go down significantly such that there will be no worry on polluting the environment. Their contribution to social programs and education through social innovation will also improve. Finally, Eledyne will stand a better chance of earning enough returns on all the employed resources.
