I found reading your discussion post particularly interesting because it allowed me to understand a different set of leaders from our nation’s history who either excelled or failed in taking advantage of changes for a strategic advantage. From your examples, Alexander Hamilton successfully predicted that the US would surpass European military and economic powers to become the world’s economic and military superpower. This way, Hamilton took advantage to design policies targeted at unifying American identity and strengthening federal institutions during George Washington’s administration. Similarly, you acknowledge that Henry Ford was effective in anticipating the value of the assembly line as a manufacturing process. This translated to his success in revolutionizing automotive design and manufacturing in the United States, along with modernizing processes in other industries. Lastly, I appreciate you because your work identifies a strategic leader who failed in change anticipation. This leader was John Sculley, Apple’s CEO between 1983 and1997, who failed to anticipate that getting the company’s founder fired would bring about product flops and marketing failures in the company. Thank you for these great case examples.
