In this assignment you will conduct an analysis of current curriculum practice based on research literature in authentic and productive curriculum.
Preliminary
Begin by reading all seven articles from Module 1, as you will be using the analytical principles discussed in these articles for this assignment. Then select either a unit of work of your own, or one produced by a willing colleague, or a curriculum authority such as the NSW Board of Studies. You will need to provide this unit, in rtf, doc, or pdf form, as part of the submission of your assignment.
Part A – (500 words equivalent)
For each of the first seven (7) weeks of the course, the lecturer will post a weekly ‘talking point’, based on the readings from Module 1, that focuses on developing an understanding of authentic and productive curriculum and how to use these concepts to reflect on and evaluate practice. Engage in the online discussion, demonstrating your developing understanding of productive curriculum and your capacity to use the framework to discuss and analyse curriculum practice.
Part B – (1,500 words plus or minus 10%)
Imagine you are a consultant who has been asked to evaluate the curriculum of the school from which your selected unit of work comes. Conduct an analysis of the unit using an authentic pedagogy framework, such as the Quality Teaching or Productive Pedagogies model. Then evaluate the unit’s alignment (strengths) and misalignment (weaknesses) with regard to your selected analytical framework. Make recommendations for how the unit could achieve greater alignment.
Assessment Criteria
Quality of analysis
How accurate is the analysis using the selected pedagogic or curriculum framework?
Quality of evaluation
To what extent does the discussion of the unit’s strengths and weaknesses indicate a deep understanding of the selected pedagogic and curricula frameworks?
Quality of argument
How compelling is the advice provided with regard to the balance of the unit?
