Communicating the Same Message to Different Audiences
Regardless of circumstances, everyone needs to understand laws, constitutional rights, and other aspects of the criminal justice system. Consider a scenario where you are assigned to convey the same information to different types of audiences. You should tailor your delivery and language to meet the needs of each group. With a group of non–native English speakers, your message might incorporate more basic words. With an audience of young children, on the other hand, your message might employ an upbeat delivery style and use of visual aids.
For this Discussion, select three audiences from the list provided. Then, consider how you would convey a specific message to these particular audiences. Finally, consider how your delivery of the message would vary between and among the audiences to be most effective.
- Children
- Juveniles (under the age of 18)
- People with Mental Illness
- Ethnic/Racial minorities
- Persons living in poverty
- Criminals
- Immigrants
- Non-English-speaking citizens
- People with Intellectual Disabilities
- Deaf Community
- Elderly
- Pregnant Women
With these thoughts in mind:
Post by Day 4 the three audiences you selected. Then explain how you would convey the message “Don’t do drugs” to each of the audiences. Be SPECIFIC and provide EXAMPLES. Finally, explain how your delivery of the message would vary between and among the audiences to be most effective. Provide a rationale for your different approaches.
