Introduction
The adoption of technology has increased in the past few decades. Technology has facilitated globalization while enhancing productivity of employees in organizations. In the recent past, companies have started to appreciate the importance of social media tools. Their decision inspired the systems theory which views organizations as open systems. Integration of social media into an organization has potential advantages and pitfalls. While using current peer reviewed articles, this annotated bibliography looks at how social media is changing the interaction between employees and their employers.
Definition of Key Terms
The annotated bibliography contains 10 articles: 6 relevant ones, 2 irrelevant ones and 2 no-research based articles. The articles are arranged alphabetically. All articles were found using the Business Source Complete database. Some of key terms that were used are:
Social media analytics: Refers to the tools used by the employers to collect and data user-related data which could then be used for purposes of hiring, marketing and the employees’ sentiments.
Behavior informatics: It is a tool that is used to capture behavioral information.
Impression management: A concept that was introduced by Goffman and it entails activities that are adopted by the actors to present a desirable image to the audience.
Informal learning: Is defined as learning that is self-directed and it could occur through social and business networks.
Social networking site (SNS): It is a web-based service that allows a person to construct a public or semi-public profile and share information with other users.
Collaboration: Is defined as sharing of information and resources for mutual benefit and to achieve a common objective.

Conclusion
Social media in organizations is a potential resource which if exploited, can enhance productivity and performance. Social media platform can be used to set up virtual environments which an organization can utilize to achieve growth. Most importantly, social media platforms can be used for impression management and motivating the employees. However, at the same time social media can adversely affect an organization’s intellectual property besides leading to a loss of confidential information.
