Social and ethical issues in Business
Section 1
The article is about Kellogg Company, a food producer. It serves its customers creating value for its investors. In every company there are stakeholders involved in the marketing, production and the sale of goods and services. This company aims at setting goals in relation to its corporate objectives. Research has shown that, it is the best company known for upholding ethical practices. The company has controversial issues relating to environmental practices. However, I would like to single out different disputable issues in this company;
Kellogg Company as a role model and should inspire other players to promote responsible and transparent palm oil supply chains. This company should not only aim at winning all the time as the best company that prevents environmental degradation that is through deforestation, but it should inspire other industry players to also protect the environment. This is because it is ethically wrong to degrade the environment in which animals and plants inhabit.
Investors are some of the important stakeholders in the business. Thus, it is their responsibility to ensure that ethical corporate effort is encouraged among all the investors in the company. That is on the main issues such as sustainable and environmental sensitive practices.
The company should also encourage the other companies to scrutinize all its activities. The company is supposed to ensure that it encourages the suppliers who are stakeholders in the business to supply goods that are environmental friendly. That is they do not lead to the degradation of the environment in any way. This is because it is the social responsibility of each one of use to ensure that business activities do not degrade the environment because it is ethically wrong.
Section 2
Section 2 a
The moral issue in this case is clearly identified. Companies have the responsibilities of ensuring that the activities that they carry out do not degrade the environment. It is the role of the companies that have come to light about this moral issue to ensure that they pass the information to the other companies. They should not only focus on their business, but other business to ensure that the environment is protected. Because it is a social responsibility to ensure that all companies do this for the good of the country.
Section 2b
The correlation between the morals and ethical issues in this article is clearly identified. Competition between companies is good. However, the companies should ensure that their competitors uphold the moral values as they do. It is not good for a company to degrade the environment while the other company has a chance to inform them on ways of protecting the environment. The suppliers are also supposed to ensure that all the goods they supply are environmentally friendly.
Section 3
To solve this moral dilemma, Kellogg Palm Company should be at the fore front in promoting environmentally friendly strategies. This is to ensure that they maintain a healthy competition among the different companies supplying palm oil. The investors are also supposed to be encouraged to invest in companies that have maintained the ethical standards. Taking Lucia von Reusner advice is the best thing that Kellogg can do to sustain ethical standards even in the other companies. That is giving advice to other companies.
